What you'll get to do Supervise employees and activities of the quality control department Determine laboratory strategy to align with plant and company goals and objectives for product quality Serve as plant technical expert on cement quality Provide training and support to lab personnel Provide technical expertise to maintain, calibrate, and optimize the lab XRF and cross-belt analyzers to insure accurate and precise analysis of all materials Monitor quality from the quarry through raw grinding, burning, cement grinding, and shipping utilizing statistical methods to track quality Collaborate both proactively and reactively with production management to address concerns and make recommendations for improvements Maintain up to date and accurate quality control records and lab reports Foster a close working relationship with Sales & Marketing and customers Ensure procedures are in accordance with all applicable ASTM, CSA and AASHTO requirements and specifications Ensure compliance with NSF Interpret quality control test results, isolate problems, and resolve them Prepare and authorize letters of certification and mill test reports Serve as liaison with other departments to adjust internal set points for process operations to maximize product quality Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Group guidelines, performing training, monitoring compliance, etc.
Evaluate potential beneficial use of raw materials for possible use in cement manufacturing process Manage automated laboratory, Historian/LDMS/AMLAS administration Manage compliance with DOT certifications Manage CIP efforts in the plant Essential Experience and Skills Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or relevant technical discipline At least 5 years of experience in the cement industry Thorough understanding of cement chemistry, X-ray, advanced chemical, physical and microscopic analytical and testing procedures, XRF, Spectrophotometry, wet chemical methods, physical testing, and clinker/cement microscopy In depth knowledge of relevant ASTM specifications and procedures Excellent analytical skills and detail orientation Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Preferred Experience and Skills Quality control supervision SAP Inventory management systems Familiarity with computer programming languages (macros, javascript, etc.
) Work Environment Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions.
